In 2004, vampiric fiction writer extraordinaire Anne Rice traded her fangs for faith when she reaffirmed her Catholicism. Following this re-conversion experience, she dedicated her life to writing books about Jesus in a four-part first-person chronicle of His life. First came Christ the Lord: The Lord of Egypt followed by Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana and now Rice has taken a hiatus from talk of her Savior in the first-person to share how she came into her own in the faith as told in her memoir Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession.
Admittedly, I haven't kept up with Rice nearly as much as I did when she was writing about Lestat, Louis and Akasha, but I happened upon a brief profile of Anne Rice, the new creation, and was really taken by the expression of her passion for the Christ. To that end, allow me to share my favorite quote from the story:
"My objective is simple: It's to write books about our Lord living on Earth that make him real to people who don't believe in him; or people who have never really tried to believe in him," she said.
She pressed the point: "I mean, I've made vampires believable to grown women. Now, if I can do that, I can make our Lord Jesus Christ believable to people who've never believed in him. I hope and pray."
