Day 37: The Illusion of Choice

I was talking yesterday to a young friend of mine about the information commonly circulated to young people about contraception, STDs, and other sexual health subjects. For example, she was surprised to read in a brochure I gave her that condoms do not protect against all strains of HPV. She had been told, “Just use a condom, you’re covered.” During the course of our conversation, she became more shocked at what she was reading. HPV is the same as genital warts? She believes that if more teenagers knew this kind of information, more of them would make different choices about being sexually involved. My thought exactly.

Yesterday something very important happened in our nation’s capital. Rep. Trent Franks (Ariz., R) introduced the Prenatal Nondiscriminatory Act (PreNDA), which aims to prohibit “performing or financing sex-selection or race-based abortions.” Most Americans don’t even know that either of these issues is a serious problem, or a threat at all. In fact, they are.

Day 35: Unity for Life

What would be sufficient motivation to compel you to intentionally cultivate a relationship with someone of a different ethnicity, different denomination, different church, different marital status, socioeconomic status, etc.? Would you do it to feed the poor in your city? Would you do it to give an abandoned child a loving home? Would the prospect of having a marriage others only dream of be enough? What about bringing revival to a country? Carmen Pate suggests saving children in the womb should motivate us all.
