Day 34: Where the Rubber Meets the Road

I had lunch on Saturday afternoon with a very good friend of mine and her husband. My friend Angela is founder of Sisters for Life in Kentucky, and she was in Dayton leading a workshop on transforming communities through intercessory prayer. At lunch, we were talking shop and the conversation turned to how we pray, and what we pray for, when we go to abortion clinics. Somehow we ended up talking about praying for the abortionists. We both chuckled and agreed that praying for the physicians who perform abortions is somewhat of a litmus test of our purity of motivation and strength of dedication to seeing abortion end. But is that the only reason we pray for them? Today’s 40 Days devotional calls us to reflect on this.

Day 33: The Abundance of the Heart

I’ve always loved words. Maybe more specifically, I love the power of words to communicate. In the past, it’s been said that sometimes I might be a little too concerned with the proper use of words. Day 32: Red Hot Passion

Don’t worry, you’re in the right place. This is still the Embracing Life blog, not some other blog on how to stir up your marriage, or something like that. Although I guess the two could be related…Any way, I’m going to refer you to the 40 Days entry for today if you’d like to read that reflection, but there’s something else on my mind.

Day 31: Meeting the Hurting

Would you ever intentionally pray to meet someone who was hurting? When preparing for a speaking or teaching engagement, I’ve prayed for women to be healed and restored. But I’m not sure I’ve ever prayed specifically to run across someone who was considering an abortion. Maybe I don’t think I need to pray that way since I’m probably more likely than most people to cross paths with women like that. But now I’m really thinking about it, thanks to Carmen’s challenge today.

Day 30: The Missing Link

My world is once again in sync with the 40 Days daily meditation. The parallel track is now starting to feel like no coincidence. Anyway, just today our onsite prayer session seemed to naturally turn to and focus on the role of the church in dealing with abortion. I know that others who address different social issues are feeling the absence of the Kingdom’s crown jewel as well. For example, people are wondering why the church doesn’t seem to be wielding more influence to decrease teen pregnancy, or to lend her voice to social discourse surrounding teen sexuality. Then again, it’s all related, so I’m right back where I started-abortion.
